We are all about Equipale lately! With origins in pre-Hispanic Mexico, the artisanal craft of Equipale furniture is a tradition in Mexican culture. The term Equipale is derived from the word icpalli, meaning ‘seat’ in the Aztec language Nahuatl.
Although we sourced our vintage set from Shop Vintage Dallas, Equipale furniture is still produced in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Zacoalco de Torres, a town in mid-western Mexico, is considered the mecca of all things Equipale. With one of the longest records of producing the artisanal furniture, Equipales from Zacoalco de Torres are shipped all over Mexico and the southwestern United States.
Although the rustic, southwestern vibe of the pieces are not everyone’s cup of tea, we adore our Jewel Settee and Raema Chairs! With all things southwestern trending right now, the set can be played up to create a trendy take on the centuries-old tradition.
Here are a few of our favorite ways in which our Equipale set has been styled!
Dark Bohemian Romance by The Moody Romantic
Lounge by Bash Co at Aften and Brian’s Eclectic-Midcentury Wedding
Intimate-Bohemian Lounge by Events by Jade
We are eager to see how the rich history and cultural tradition of Equipales will be incorporated into event design in the upcoming seasons!
